Description of resource
|
Fun, Food & Fitness is a community-based program developed by the American Council for Fitness and Nutrition (ACFN) to educate youth on the importance of nutritional balance and physical activity. This integrated approach to health and wellness is intended to promote and support healthy lifestyle choices for all children — at home, in school and in the community.
The Fun, Food & Fitness toolkit is designed to help individuals and organizations plan, implement, promote and evaluate the effectiveness of health awareness programs to prevent African-American youth from becoming overweight and obese. It is a program that can be implemented by churches, community groups, schools or government. Based on the successful Summer Fun, Food & Fitness pilot program that took place in Baltimore in 2004, this guide, along with the reproducible materials enclosed in this kit, can be used to develop similar health awareness programs.
The American Council for Fitness and Nutrition (ACFN) is a non-profit organization that brings together food and beverage companies, associations, and health and nutrition advocates to work toward viable long-term solutions to the nation's obesity epidemic. ACFN represents a diverse group of organizations and is guided by an Advisory Board of experts in the fields of nutrition, physical activity and behavior change. |
